IT Fitness Test is the flagship project of the Digital Coalition and the largest and most comprehensive digital skills assessment initiative in the Visegrád Group (V4) countries.
The project was launched in Slovakia in 2010 under the auspices of the IT Association of Slovakia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, and other key ICT stakeholders from both Slovakia and abroad.
Since 2022, the project has had an international dimension and has been implemented across all V4 countries. The test is available in national languages as well as in English. Over the years, it has become a reliable tool for objectively measuring the digital competencies of children, young people, teachers, and the general public.
During more than 14 years of operation, nearly one million respondents from V4 countries have participated in the IT Fitness Test, including hundreds of thousands of pupils, students, and teachers from primary, secondary, and higher education institutions.
The IT Fitness Test is a free, online, large-scale assessment that focuses not on memorisation of theoretical knowledge, but on evaluating practical digital skills essential for education, employment, and everyday life in a digital society. The results provide valuable data for schools, experts, institutions, and policymakers.
Within the IT Fitness Test, children and young people are assessed in the following areas:
- Internet and information literacy
- Cybersecurity and data protection
- Office productivity tools
- Collaboration tools and social media
The project also includes the IT Master Test, which was introduced in 2025 as a new assessment designed for advanced users. The test focuses on complex, analytical, and logical problem-solving tasks and helps identify digital talent among students.
For many years, the IT Fitness Test has supported the development of digital skills across the Central European region, highlighting gaps in education and encouraging children, schools, and society as a whole to systematically improve digital literacy. At the same time, it has created a unique and long-term comparable database of digital skills data, serving as a valuable resource for public institutions and experts when assessing digital literacy levels and shaping future education and skills development policies.
